One thing I do see happening is the Far East countries always having favor..
We have Something they dont, moaning face youngsters who dont teamplay half the time, but the Far Easts dont, they never fight or argue they play to win and doesnt matter who they team with they will not fight and become stronger.
Perhaps it will shut up those "Im 1337!" guys lol

Looks like ArenaNet have chosen to go with Japan and Taiwan instead of China seeing as both Japan and Taiwan have deep hatreds towards China since China has declared it will invade Taiwan in 20 or so years and also China has never forgiven the Japanese for their WW2 atrocities.
Don't expect to see GW released in China.

I don't mind having to link my accounts to different continents. The real pain in the ass is going to be all the languages I have to learn.
I'd also like to take this opportunity to renew my complaint about PvP success being linked to PvE game content. I'm not saying I hate the idea of favor, merely that the rewards for holding favor should be PvP related - more fame for wins or something. Maybe a competition arena that can only be accessed when your country has favor. Something other than locking us peace-loving folk out of FoW and UW.

Nope, Hong Kong and Taiwan and two completely different places. Only thing they got in common is that they both use Traditional Chinese whereas China uses Simplified.
Actually a side-note: Much of the Zaishen architecture seems to based upon Taiwanese architecture especially the boats in the screenshots. I'd daresay that Taiwan was used as a reference point for creating the Zaishen culture.

Different payment plans between countries.
It's free-to-play in Europe, US, etc.. but not in Korea, etc.. (Gametime subscription cards iirc)

I meant china, I was under the impression from gaile's messages that china was to be it's own territory under the name of hong kong.

20 or so years, I doubt much will happen. Especially China's interrior structure had changed so much since decades ago.
========
The main reason that China is VERY OFTEN left out in electronic entertainment is because China is the "King of piracy". Even Nintendo had to develope a new system just for China to play out-dated games that won't be pirated so easily.
China's sheer population is what every company want as customers, but its sheer number often also become a problem to distribution.

you can see it the other way , would you like for america and europe to be in the same territory ?
it totaly fair , if you think in time zones , japan and taiwan play more or less in the same time zone , so , its fair they have tops guilds fight more or less at the same time , more chalenge for them ...

I think the other reason that you won't see a mainland China release any time soon relates to the nature of an on line game. The Chinese government monitors every Internet packet that leaves or enters the country. If you think your lag is bad, imagine what it would be like for some poor guy in Shanghai.
Even if Anet put servers in-country, HoH and GvG battles would still need inter-server communications. Just doesn't seem practical.

My point is that it's unfair to the Asians. The American servers have two whole continents worth of people playing for them. I assume Africans play with Europe. I'm not sure who the Aussies play with, but I'd guess Europe, too or maybe America. However, the Asian countries being seperated gives them a much smaller population of players. Japan is just Japan. Taiwan is just Tawain. Korea is just Korea. When the game first came out, I had assumed it was released worldwide and all the Asian countries were playing under "Korea," which I didn't understand, but oh well. Now, I see that "Korea" was just Korea and each Asian country is being put into it's own seperate little group. How often is Japan going to have favor when they have to play against Korea, Taiwan, the European Union, and the entire western hemisphere? That doesn't really seem fair, now, does it?

I find it funny, that a little province called Taiwan can compete on the same scale with the entire European continent...
